Order of Worship—John 18.1-11
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
Call to Worship
(Ps. 23:1-6) The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Hymn No. 96 “Great is Thy Faithfulness”
Pastoral Prayer
Dear Father, indeed you are faithful. You have been faithful in the past. You are faithful now. And you will always be faithful. You changest NOT! We always know what to expect from you. Indeed, Your steadfast love never ceases; Your mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23).
On this day, we celebrate your faithfulness. We will sing and pray and preach and fellowship with each other. But there are some who are missing among us. They have truly come home. This celebration today is just getting us ready for that heavenly homecoming that awaits us. We sincerely grieve the death of our sisters Judy and Doris but they have…fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. (2 Tim. 4:7-8).
One day this will be true for all who believe: (Rev. 19:6-9) 6 Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”– for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. 9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”
Come Lord Jesus. Do with us as you please. Make much of your great name! In Christ’ name we pray, amen.
Hymn No. 149 “Praise Him! Praise Him!”
(Jas. 1:12) 12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Hymn No. 447 “It is well with my Soul”
Sermon
Hymn No. 506 “In Christ Alone”
Benediction
(Eph. 3:14-21) 4 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith– that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
