Order of Worship—John 14.18-31 Part 1

Prelude

Announcements and Welcome

Call to Worship—Psalm 77

(Ps. 77:1-20) I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me.  2 In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted.  3 When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah  4 You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.  5 I consider the days of old, the years long ago.  6 I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search:  7 “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable?  8 Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time?  9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah  10 Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”  11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.  12 I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.  13 Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God?  14 You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.  15 You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah  16 When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled.  17 The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side.  18 The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook.  19 Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen.  20 You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God?

Hymn No. 68 “Holy, Holy, Holy”

Prayer for Students, teachers, staff and schools

Hymn No. 28 “To God be the Glory”

(Heb. 10:19-23) 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,  20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,  21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,  22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hymn No. 339 “Standing on the Promises”

Sermon—John 14:18-31 Part 1—Promises Made

Hymn No. 338 “Wonderful Words of Life”

Benediction

(Rom. 8:33-39)  33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.  34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died– more than that, who was raised– who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.  35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?  36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”  37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,  39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
