“If my Lord would be pleased, I would desire some were dealt with for my return to Anwoth (the place where he was pastoring but he is now in prison); but if that never be, thank God, Anwoth is not heaven, preaching is not Christ; I hope to wait on.”
“Madam, when you are come to the other side of the water, and have set down your foot on the shore of glorious eternity, and look back again to the waters, and to your wearisome journey, and shall see in that clear glass of endless glory nearer to the bottom of God’s wisdom, you shall then be forced to say, ‘If God had done otherwise with me, then he hath done, I had never come to the enjoying t￼his crown and glory’.”
This sermon is a walk down the Emmaus Road. It was difficult but I hope it was fruitful. I don’t think I did a very good job this week but it was a hard week. These four Advent sermons are harder than continuing to preach through John. But we will be back to the Gospel According to John in a few weeks, Lord willing.
